Lee Valley Ranch Camp Information
Lee Valley Ranch Camp is a privately owned Christian Camp for training Youth and Adult leaders. It was founded in 1969 by Pastor Dick and Cynthia Borrud. The ranch was bought in 1969 from Fred and Myrtle Lee. It was named Lee Valley in honor of these friends who had been active in the Lutheran Church and Lutheran Church camping.

Program: Over the 40 summers of camp history, Lee Valley has served: Boy and Girl Scouts, Church youth groups, high school classes, university classes, state diabetes camp, servant camps, family reunions, hosteling groups traveling to service locations, family camps, special topic camps, peer ministry, etc. Contact us about hosting your group!

Affiliation: The camp is a non-profit camp organized under IRS code 501:c/3. About a fourth of our campers come free because of special needs. We serve mostly Lutheran groups but are not related to the Lutheran Church in any specific way. We have served many different denominations. The camp is fraternally related to Lutheran Outdoor in South Dakota and Outlaw Ranch and Atlantic Mountain Camp, which are LO camps in the area.

Focus: The Bible verses that best describe the focus of Lee Valley Ranch are from Romans 12:9-13: Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

Volunteer Staff: The camp has operated with a very low camp fee because the total staff are volunteers. People have made sacrifices to serve in this way. The camp is totally non-profit. We do not solicit donations but occasionally a few donations help float the camp budget.

The Setting: The camp is located at 6,000 feet elevation in the Southern Black Hills of South Dakota. The location is 7 miles Northwest of the town of Custer, South Dakota. It is 16 miles from Mt. Rushmore and 4 miles west of Crazy Horse Monument. The camp site involves 10,000 acres of public and private land. We have a large herd of elk, deer, and wild turkey on the site. Other animals on the site include: Western marmot, rabbits, coyote, cougar, golden eagle, porcupine, etc. The site has ideal summer weather and few insects such as mosquitos and ticks. It is a safe environment. There are rooms for 85 people on the main camp site and youth are often housed in tents. Each youth has a private tent on a platform. We have accommodated 150 in our largest camps. The ideal camp is 50 to 75.
